To my dear readers of The Truth About Daniel,
As I announce the publication of Secrets to the Wind, those of you who read Truth may wonder why I’m re-doing Book One in my Dauntless Series. My decision to do so had a lot to do with my experience as a reader discovering my favorite author.
I began reading her well-known series out of sequence, and was quite a few books into it when I read her first book in the series. Was I ever shocked! It wasn’t very good. In fact, if I’d read her Book One first, I never would have continued reading any more. But since most publishers aren’t interested in re-issuing books, she is stuck with that edition.
I didn’t want to make the same mistake.

During Covid, I had to stop presenting Susan B. Anthony in person, put my massage therapy practice on hold, and pause the aqua classes I was teaching. Instead, I spent many uninterrupted hours working on Books Two and Three in my series. Gradually, I realized that The Truth About Daniel had not laid as good a foundation as I would wish for the later books. And unlike the author mentioned above, I can re-issue the book because I publish my own work. (So did Susan B. Anthony, by the way.)
While reworking Book One, I’ve taken the time to deepen my characters, replace some sluggish scenes with more interesting ones, and give a better sense of the communities in which Annie and Daniel lived. Secrets to the Wind is now ready to become the new Book One in my Dauntless Series. Plus, I love the new cover!
My thanks to readers who bought The Truth About Daniel. Your initial outpouring of support has sustained me through this long rewrite. I hope you also have the chance to enjoy the new version!
But even if you don’t, please know that:
- Books Two and Three are well underway.
- Occasionally, I will offer new short stories connected with the Anthony family. If you haven’t already read Songbird in the Marsh, here’s a free copy, Download as PDF. It lays the groundwork for the abolitionist theme that runs through all my books and records the initial meeting of Annie and Daniel. Please share it!
- This newsletter will continue to publish articles about the Anthonys, their friends, and their era. So stay in touch!

All the best,
Jeanne
